I visited Venice in 2012 in October and it was gloriously sunny and a lovely holiday until I got an evil dose of food poisoning!
Anyway, as is well known Venice is actually lots of little towns sitting on water (evil disgusting water that is full of germs and you should not drink!) resulting in lots of canals.
I have heard that the water smells really gross during the summer when it’s hot but it was fine when I was there. There are plenty of gondolas to take rides in but they are quite expensive and it looked pretty boring tbh.
A lot of the buildings had ornate gold decoration on the water-facing facade so on a sunny day the view was quite lovely.
