Packing for Glasgow

It’s coming up to Christmas (I’m scheduling this in advance!) and I’m making my annual trek to Glasgow!

Not much of a trek as my mum is doing the driving but the whole journey is about 5hrs.  So we’re setting off on Thursday afternoon, stopping overnight on the way and then completing the rest of the journey on Friday morning.  We’ll have Friday afternoon and Saturday in Glasgow and then spend Sunday driving back. That means I’ll be away from home for three nights.  And the weather has got a little chilly!

Packing For Glasgow

So here it is.  I’m taking a thick green hoody from Naketano, and a blur stripey jumper also from Naketano.  I love Naketano.  They no longer have a webshop.  This saddens me. I’ve also got an enjoyably flowery shirt from Monki (also like me some Monki).  I have a red long sleeve top, and a pink one. my blue jeans, PJs, tights, socks, and underwear.  I’m also taking my big infinity scarf, gloves, hat (not pictured), my keys, phone, purse.  I’ve also got a couple of Christmas books, one is a non-fiction history of Christmas and one is a Christmas murder mystery.

Non-picture is my Blacks 30l rucksack that I always use now to carry my stuff.  My little day bag (always take a day bag).  And a bags and bags of presents!

Packing for a Weekend in the Lake District

P1000633

For boyfriend’s birthday we going away for a weekend to the Lake District.  So here is my packing!  The weather has turned pretty cold so I’ll need warm clothes, and we might do some little walks so comfortable clothes and shoes.  Above are my clothes and bags.  I’m using my trusty Blacks rucksack to carry everything, but also taking my little pink back pack for my day bag.

I’ve also got my grey jeans and leopard print jumper (which boyfriend hates!), and two long sleeved tops.  Not pictured is some other new trousers I’ve got which are like sweat pants you can wear outside (I wear sweat pants outside anyway…) and my new snuggly green hoody which was in the wash.  There’s also my coat, hat, and gloves in the shot, my socks and underwear, and a t-shirt and shorts I can sleep in.

In regards to non-clothes stuff,  I am taking about 3 books very optimistically.  I always think I’ll read a lot on holiday but then don’t.  I’ve also got two of my analogue cameras, the La Sardina and Diana Mini.  I’ve got my toiletries, brush, and mini hair straighteners.  There’s also a tree guide from our new Woodland Trust membership, so we can look at trees…

I also need my phone and charger, my pillow, some trainers, and possibly (now I think about it) a nicer outfit in case we go out for dinner.

What do you think?  Any packing suggestions?

Packing For Glasgow

Packing For Glasgow

I took a very quick trip to Glasgow recently to visit my new baby nephew (and some adults).  I arrived lunchtime on Friday and left about 4pm on Saturday, and was traveling by train.  I didn’t need to take too much with me, although I did have a few presents that I needed to cram into my backpack.

It was very hot when I went up there, but this heat wave has been so unprecedented it was hard to believe that it would stay warm, in Scotland of all places. I went up there in my jeans and long sleeve dino top, the air conditioning on the train made that an OK travel outfit.  But on arrival we sat in the garden and it was very necessary to shorts up.  I threw in some new shorts (not pictured), as well as shorts to sleep in (which it was far too hot to wear)! I also took some fluffy slipper socks which my niece quite enjoyed stroking and grabbing hold of.

My non-clothes items were fairly minimal; some toiletries, sunglasses, sun block, a book to read on the train, a day bag (which sister had bought me and my niece pointed to and said ‘we bought that’), my purse, and then I also took my phone and camera.  It was fairly successful packing I’d say!

Packing For Durham

20180520_205417

Another mini-break, this time to Durham and Beamish!  I’ve never been to Durham, it’s not huge but it has a Cathedral and Castle.  We’re only going for two nights so I don’t need loads of clothes, and I’m clearly over packing!  The weather has been HOT but has cooled a little leaving me in a quandry as to what to take.  So I’m taking jeans, shorts, and a dress.  Also a long sleeve top, two t-shirts, a cardigan, and a hoody.  And then underwear, PJs, shoes, a day bag, toiletries, camera, and a book.

This includes what I’ll wear to work on Friday and then wear to travel to Durham, so it’s three days worth of clothes.  So it’s not quite as crazy as it seems.  Below is my travel outfit and the Blacks City 30 bag I use for these little trips.

London Packing

It seems like only 10mins ago I was packing for Riga, but here I am again jet setting. This time only to London but it will cost about as much and take about as long to get there…

We’ll be there from Thursday 1pm until 7pm Saturday, and we expect it to be chilly but dry.  I’m only taking a backpack (I do have a mini backpack just to use as a day bag), so it all has to fit in there.  Continue reading

Packing for Riga!

I am heading off to Riga, Latvia with mum and sister.  I am very excited.  I’ve never been to Latvia before and I wouldn’t have picked Riga myself so might not have ever gone there if mum hadn’t picked it.  As of yet I’m not sure what we’re going to get up to, we’re only there for 4 days including travel days.  But the weather looks quite British.  The forecast is for about 13 degrees and cloudy.

P1040954

Clothes wise I’m taking 2 pairs of jeans (including the pair I’ll wear on the plane), 3 t-shirts, 2 long sleeve tops, 2 dresses, pajamas, and underwear.  We’re only taking hand luggage but it all fits in to my rucksack easily.  Actually, I have a nice amount of space to fit any purchases I make!

I’m also taking a couple of books, toiletries (in a clear plastic bag when packed), passport, euros, travel insurance, purse, keys.  I’ve got 2 film cameras (and I’ll take my digital camera and phone) and a couple of little notebooks.  The notebooks are because I’ve been quite into scrap booking my trips recently, I’m going to take them with me so I can roughly plan which pictures to use.

Packing for Edinburgh

Boyfriend has decreed that we are not allowed to take two foreign holidays in a year. We went to the USA in April (and I am going to Latvia with mum in October), so our summer jolly had to be in the UK.  London was on the cards for a while, but we decided to head away further north to Edinburgh.   Annoyingly, London is enjoying a heat wave and Edinburgh is not but the tickets are booked.  Also it means we can see my sister and niece who live in Glasgow.

So, I headed out today and picked up a new rucksack (actually three!) to take with me.  I bought the Blacks City 30, which is a 30L rucksack designed for travel and commuting rather than hiking.  And it was in the sale.

You can see what I was able to fit into it, and now it’s pretty full:

  • underwear and socks
  • sleepwear
  • 5 x t-shirts
  • 1 x shorts
  • 1 x trousers
  • sunglasses
  • snacks
  • painkillers
  • itinerary
  • purse
  • 1 x skirt
  • 1 x dress
  • 1 x cardigan
  • raincoat
  • 2 x books
  • 1 x tote bag
  • toiletries
  • cameras
  • hairbrush
  • keys

And left out:

  • small day bag
  • travel outfit

Packing For USA

We set off for New York tomorrow, it’s gonna be a pretty epic trek to get there.  Leaving home at about 10:30am, to catch a 10:57am train to Leeds, then a nice 30 min wait at the exciting Leeds train station before catching the train to Manchester.  We’ll have about 2.5hrs in Manchester Airport before setting of at 15:45pm.  We land in London, and have about 1.5 hrs before finally getting on the plane to America.  We land at 10:30pm local time, which is 3:30am UK time so about 17hrs after setting off.

Oh working that our has just depressed me!

Anyway, I have the day off today to do some laundry, cleaning, and finish packing.  So I thought I would show you what I’ve packed.  I still have a few essentials missing like toothbrush, phone, keys, etc.

P1040499Obviously, the main suitcase is mainly clothes. That part of America has had some changeable weather recently, and I expect it’ll be nice when we’re there but a bit chilly in New York and a bit rainy in Washington.  There’s also the chance for sunny days, and that we might go to nice places for dinner, so I had to pack a variety of outfit options.  So I’m taking:

  • Bottoms- black jeans, blue jeans, green trousers, blue skirt, black skirt, green shorts
  • Tops- green t-shirt, grey flower top, pink top, star wars top, tie-dye t-shirt, black shirt (and vest to wear underneath)
  • Knitwear- L’amour jumper, pink cardigan, black hoody, dinosaur jumper, coat
  • Sportswear- running top, running leggings, sports socks, sports bra, headband, bikini
  • Also- black and white dress, PJ t-shirt, tights, socks, underwear

As you can see in the photo I’ve taken some of those clothes and put them in a pile next to my suitcase, these are my travel clothes.  I even have my underwear for traveling picked out so I don’t wake up and find there’s nothing clean in my drawer.

In my suitcase I also have my toiletries and hair things, my rain coat, a hat, emergency tea bags, some analogue cameras and film, and a plug adapter.  I’m using my backpack as my carry on luggage, and I have a plastic wallet with my passport, money, and travel insurance in it.  I have three books to pretend to read on the plane, my purse, and two small bags (one for day, one for evening for day-to-day use).  I also have spare underwear, socks, and a t-shirt in case my suitcase gets lost.

And most importantly, I have the birthday card my mum gave me to open on my birthday!

Top Travel Tips- Things To Pack

Just some ideas of what to pack when you’re on holiday.  I did a post a while ago about things to pack in your hand luggage and I thought I would expand on that.

Plug adapters- because they have different electricity in foreign lands

Chargers- chargers are handy for charging things

Spare underwear and socks- obviously you need some for everyday and then an extra pair for accidents

Nice shoes/sandals- for going out to dinner, assuming you wear trainers on the plane

First Aid Kit- basically plasters, some pain killers, insect repellent, tampons, condoms etc

Laundry bag- preferably cotton not plastic

Plastic bag- for dirty shoes
